Description: Students will understand that the Creation narrative is a theological story in response to competing stories of the day.
Contributor’s Names: Rod & Joline Olson
Connection to EGF: With a focus on ‘becoming’ who God has made us to be, the level one week takes a look at God’s greater story. We seek to orient ourselves within that greater story by: discovering the longing and hunger that we all have for God; understanding that guilt and conviction is only part of our response to a holy God; stepping into a humility and receptivity to God in our lives; and by owning our personal stories and seeking ways to redeem our story, the story of others, and creation.
Goals and Objectives: Using story, activity and discussion students will come to see the Creation narrative as a theological story- not a scientific one. They will compare it with competing stories of the day; comparing this reality to the fact that they too face some competing stories about who they might become.
Resources: chart paper, markers, student workbook, random objects (see intro activity), 11x17 name posters (each person’s name in block letters, enlarged as big as possible), markers for students to colour with; Tubes TDA supplies (strong cardboard tubes cut in half like a gutter, one marble per team) |

Description: Students will understand that our brokenness in relationships is met by the victory of creation.
Goals and Objectives: This second day of sessions, teaching, activities and discussion is meant to facilitate thinking around sin and the fall. However, we have sought to reorient students’ thinking away from guilt and shame and an “I suck” cycle of thinking, towards a hope and wonder at how God (through creation or tohu vabohu) has met the challenge of sin and how that same victory over chaos in their lives and world is at their grasp also.
Resources: Children’s Book “A Bad Case of Stripes” (by David Shannon),chart paper, markers, student workbook, Nooma video “Lump” |

Description: Students will understand that the point of the covenant is to be called into an encounter with God’s heart and to live out the “dawrash” – requirements of the covenant.
Goals and Objectives: Ultimately, covenant is a concept that is foreign to our culture and to most young minds. This lesson seeks to bring understanding of what covenant is, why covenant is important, how it works. From this point, the students rework the existing EGF covenant for LTDs in small groups before creating the covenant for their level for the LTD program.
Resources: chart paper, markers, copy of EGF covenant for each person (in student workbook, need extras for leaders), DVD of “Emmanuel’s Gift”
Overview: • Biblical CSI • The Israelite Story: Some Background • What is a Covenant? • Images of the Covenant • The Point of the Covenant. • How it Works... Diagram explained • Level Ones rewrite EGF Covenant in own words
